The Menominee Nation mourns the passing of Ernie Stevens Jr. His leadership was felt deeply across Indian Country, as he worked relentlessly to advance self-determination, uphold tribal sovereignty, and invest in the strength of future generations. Chairman Awonohopay shared the following statement: “Ernie’s impact reached far and wide. We will miss his leadership, and especially his commitment to education and youth. Whether investing in the College of Menominee Nation, helping empower our Woodland Boys and Girls Club, or supporting our Tribal Storm athletes, Ernie was always giving back and reminding our young people that they are the future of our nations. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the Oneida Nation. His legacy of service, mentorship, and unwavering advocacy will live on in the generations he inspired.
